Kay in ‘t Ven signs at University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC

Kay In ’t Ven will travel to the United States in August 2017 to combine playing soccer with his undergraduate studies. The 18-year old midfielder played in the professional Dutch youth academies of Roda JC and Fortuna Sittard in the past. He will make the transfer from RKSV Bekkerveld to the USC men’s soccer team, Columbia, South Carolina.

In ’t Ven was scouted at young age by professional Dutch soccer club Roda JC. The midfielder played in all the Roda JC youth academy teams from the U9 onwards. In ‘t Ven is a tough but technical and dynamic defensive midfielder. With his drive, winning mentality and vision in the game he is the engine of any team. His qualities were noticed by the KNVB (Dutch Soccer Association) talent teams where Kay played in regional talent teams and representing squads. After seven years at Roda JC In ‘t Ven made the switch to the U19 team of professional Dutch soccer club Fortuna Sittard. During the 2016-2017 season the young midfielder transferred to RKSV Bekkerveld. Now In ‘t Ven is on the eve of a new transfer, this time he chooses an international adventure in the USA.

Kay is moving to the University of South Carolina. A true ‘powerhouse’ NCAA Division 1 men’s soccer program.

USC accommodates more than 30.000 students and supports superior facilities. The Gamecocks are in the top-10 leaderboard of most visitors at home soccer games. An average of 2.500 fans come to watch the red-black team play. This is enough for an eighth place on the US college soccer national ranking. Last season (2016) the match between USC and #2 nationally ranked team Clemson University drew 7.892 spectators. Awesome!

In August 2017 In ‘t Ven will join his new team. The squad is led by head coach Mark Berson. USC men’s soccer team competes in the strong Conference USA. In the 2016 season, the team was eliminated in the conference post-season playoffs by Old Dominion University. In the National Championships University of South Carolina eventually lost to Clemson University, the later national champions runner-up. The objectives for the 2017 season are clear: “Our goal is to win the conference championship and make it as deep as possible in the National Championships. We owe it to our fans!”, head coach Berson explains.

In ’t Ven is promising to be a key player on the midfield in a soccer selection with players from Spain, Scotland, England, Norway, Iceland, Austria and the US. A great challenge at a top university in a top soccer team!
