Astrid van Triest is set to embark on a new adventure in the United States this summer. The versatile player from Maastricht Hockey Club U18 has committed to James Madison University, where she will continue both her academic and athletic journey.
Astrid has an impressive and international sports background. From a young age, she was active in various sports such as swimming and ice skating at both national and international levels, but she discovered her passion for field hockey at the age of ten after moving to Belgium. Within three years, she joined the club’s first team and was awarded the Fair Play Award. At the age of thirteen, she moved to Singapore, where she was immediately selected for the First Senior Women’s team in the national league. As captain of her school team, she developed both physical and tactical skills. In Portugal, she won every possible championship with her club and participated in the European Club Challenges. She also became the youngest goal scorer ever at the Indoor European Championship. Currently, she plays at the highest youth level in the Netherlands with Maastricht HC and represents the French U18 National Team, competing in tournaments like the Four Nations Tournament.
Having lived in five countries across two continents, Astrid has grown into a social, resilient, and adaptable individual. She currently studies at the United World College in Maastricht, where she lives on campus among students from all over the world. Astrid is known for her positive energy, social nature, and ability to remain calm on the field. Her teammates appreciate her leadership, composure during matches, and her ability to connect with everyone around her.
James Madison University is gaining a versatile, technically skilled, and physically strong player with Astrid. She’s not the first KingsTalent athlete to chase her hockey dream with the Dukes—Madelief Molier, Kiki Postma, and Diede Remijnse paved the way. The university is located in the vibrant city of Harrisonburg, Virginia, where students enjoy a lively town atmosphere surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes. With Astrid’s arrival, the hockey program at James Madison University hopes to strengthen its team for the upcoming season. We wish Astrid lots of success and joy at James Madison University!
